This week’s Waterfront Wednesday focuses on the wonderful Henderson Harbor on Lake Ontario.
Henderson Harbor is a scenic town located between Wescott Beach and Southwick Beach State Parks on Lake Ontario in Jefferson County. There are many attractions to this picturesque place, a sandy beach being the main one during the summer months. The town is located along State Route 3 and is only a short drive from Interstate 81. The harbor is also only 30 minutes from the bustling city of Watertown. There are plenty of waterfront properties available and in the town as well, not to mention all of the vacation rentals. More can be found in the neighboring 1000 Islands and Sackets Harbor, the activity never ceases.
In this portion of Lake Ontario you can find lake trout, perch, salmon, steel head and pike, perfect targets for any fishermen out there. There are charter guides to assist you on your fishing adventures along the sandy beaches. The fresh water recreation seems to have no end in this tranquil harbor. There is a deep port for sailors, and the harbor was once used for Olympic Sailing trails. Sailing is one of the main attractions to the harbor, and there is a Henderson Harbor Yacht Club always welcoming new members. This doesn’t even touch the amount of kayaking, boating, water skiing and swimming that you can partake in. Henderson Harbor is a great place to buy a year round home or even a summer property to enjoy the warmer weather. There is great lodging, dining, campgrounds and marinas in the harbor.
